The goal to “Self Mastery through the Art of Boxing” is to develop character, discipline and well being for at risk youth and their surrounding communities, especially, in East Oakland where gun violence has inflicted the sorrows of the victim’s family. This is why boxing is important to this community because it can act as a deterrent to the senseless killings. The motto is” if you can’t resolve your problems through words and negotiation, drop your chrome & bullets, pick up a 16 oz. glove and settle the score in the ring.” It’s a vehicle to express ones anger and despair of the mean streets, into a controlled & respectful environment, the boxing ring and, still, be able to come out of it alive. This is the beauty of boxing, where raw energy can be channeled into something constructive not destructive. And, if you choose to practice this martial art, wholeheartedly, you will have the discipline and knowledge to become a successful, have the courage to fight for what is right, defend yourself from an attacks and have the confidence to overcome any challenges that may come your way. This is true Self Mastery.

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power, if you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich.”
