The EOBA has undergone a staff reorganization in 2007 increasing staff accountability and the capacity to serve youth. Elizabeth Friedler, former Education Program Director, has been transitioned to the position of Executive Director where she has been working to update and implement new organizational policies and strategies and is working with an expanded Board of Directors to develop an action plan for fundraising and a capital campaign. Ms. Friedler has a Masters of Education Degree with a focus on Curriculum Development and Instruction. Former Education Assistant, Rakeya Cherry, has transitioned into the position of Education Program Director and is responsible for developing program curriculum and materials, supervising and training staff and volunteers, and working with parents and feeder schools to the Smartmoves Program. Additional management staff includes a PE Coordinator, Technology Manager, and Art Director who have increased the consistency and quality of programming.

Education tutors are from UC Berkeley and local colleges who bring experience working with youth and diverse majors ranging from education to engineering to business. Other staff includes a Head PE coach, two assistant coaches (we are currently seeking a woman coach to train our female youth participants), a health and nutrition instructor, and a gardener. Throughout the year the EOBA provides opportunities for ten paid youth interns who receive on site job training and are responsible for organizing and implementing activities for youth. Volunteers include tutors from Applied Scholastics, Youth Employment Partnership, Lionel Wilson, and community members. All staff receives an orientation and monthly trainings on the key components of tutoring, mentoring, and managing youth. The EOBA employee manual, conduct codes, policies, and staff roles/ responsibilities are covered during staff orientation and the manual is available for all staff.  Fingerprinting is required for all new employees.
