The East Oakland Boxing Association (EOBA) has been developing and diversifying its programs in the last several years to provide youth with well-rounded experiences and diverse opportunities to become mentally and physically healthy individuals. Components specific to physical education include boxing, calisthenics, martial arts, running, nutrition, partnering with schools and CBOs to offer off-site boxing programs, facilitating and organizing all-female self-defense classes and workshops, focusing high quality programs by having a diverse coaching staff, as well as utilizing opportunities provided by Team Up for Youth including Coaching Corps and trainings.

Through the art of boxing, coaches/mentors teach and reiterate the seven core
principles so that youth may carry it with them through life.
The Seven Core Principles:

Educate – To liberate one’s full potential.

EOBA coaches will offer martial arts training, individualized tutoring, college or job search counseling, and positive mentoring. Additional opportunities will include educational fieldtrips, offsite trainings, workshops, and participating with other youth organizations so that youth can build relationships outside their immediate community. Coaches will carefully work with youth to ensure they succeed academically. Youth will be encouraged to enroll in college, trade school, or apprenticeship programs so that they have a greater opportunity for success.
